The wine glasses, mugs, punch bowls and tankards in the inventory of James Shields attest to the variety of beverages dispensed at his tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia. This tankard was inspired by a late-18th century English pewter mug embossed with sprays of wheat surrounding a neoclassical shield. Hand wash only.
